Julius Caesar
Introduction
Born in 100 BC, Julius Caesar was considered to be one of the greatest leaders of his time. His toughness or strong personality was not built overnight. At a young age his father died, and Caesar was left behind with his Mother. At around age 19 Caesar decided to join the army to escape from Sulla, who was at the time Rome's dictator. It was during these times when he learned valuable lessons in terms of leadership and warfare tactics. He carried these lessons along with him as he moved through the ranks. Even when he became a dictator, he went to several battles and used the experience gained from serving the army. Around 60 BC Caesar was named the governor of the Roman province of Spain by Pompey. However, years of allegiance between the two ended when both Caesar and Pompey went head to head thus signaling the start of the Roman civil war in 49 BC. Shortly after winning the battle Caesar declared himself as a Roman dictator. Even though he ruled as a dictator, he was able to change the Roman Empire and made it one of the strongest and feared Empires. Julius Caesar changed the size of the Roman Senate and also made it one that represented everyone. Besides that, he also completely wiped out the debt and made changes to the Roman calendar.
