"All things deteriorate over time"

Virgil was chosen as one of the Top 10 authors and writers of Italy because of his popularity and relativity with just a resume of 3 pieces of work.

Publius Vergilius Maro

Introduction

Publius Vergilius Maro is referred to as the "Greatest Roman Poet" of all time. Being one of the most influential poets in Ancient Rome history, there are underrated aspects of Virgil's life. It is overlooked that this man was one of the major writers merely from only three pieces of writing, one in which he did not finish. He endured a complex life as an adolescent and young adult during the reign of Julius Caesar, which is believed to be his motivation and drive to write. The chaos and troubles of Rome and the rise of his preferred ruler, Augustus, paved the way of his most famous piece the "Aeneid."  He passed away with the hearts and minds of thousands, depicting his thoughts and vision of Rome through poems and writing.

The Eclogues were written by Virgil in his late twenties and was his first notable piece of work. The body of this piece contained ten poems that he used to express his feeling after the Civil War. His main influence of his writing style in these works was the writing style, Bucolics. Bucolics was created by famous Ancient poet Theocritus.

The Georgics was Virgil's official second published piece of work. The Georgics  consists of four books in which he discusses how he feels about farming and rural living consequences Ancient Rome suffered after the murder of Julius Caesar.  Virgil's influencial model was the piece written by famous Greek poet "Hesiod," but there are many more factors that influenced the writing of the poems.  Some people consider this piece Vergils best piece, however it is his third and unfinished book that grabbed the attention of all of Rome.

Although Virgil was influenced mostly by "Works and Days,'' written by Hesiod, these were many aspects of the four books that were derived from other poets and other pieces written before the Georgics were even thought of.

The Aeneid was Virgil's most famous piece. It is vital to know that he was unable to finish this book because of health complications that ended his life. How could an incomplete, unedited, draft of literature be one of the most, if not the most, famous collection of poems in Ancient Rome history. The Aeneid was and introduction to epic poem and it told the story of Aeneas' journey to Italy from Troy.

Virgil wrote this epic poem under the reign of Augustus, the Roman Emperor. It was Augustus who influenced Virgil to compose his masterpiece. The Aeneid told the story of Aeneas, but also foreshadowed the uprising of Augustus' reign.

After the death of Virgil, the Aeneid was found and edited. Virgil actually wanted to destroy the piece before he passed away and also did not want it to be published unfinished. However, it was such a masterpiece that they decided to edit it and publish it anyway.
